" RUNNING FROM COYOTE" is a remarkable book, a brilliant example of how a writer
can use memories of her own childhood to introduce the world to another culture. Not only does Ms. Buhler provide a clear view of the Navajo people, my own favorite Native American culture, she also tells a wonderful story of a white girl growing up between the Sacred Mountains.
If I were still teaching my University of New Mexico classes, I would have it on my required reading list.
~ Tony Hillerman

First-time author Buhler’s charming childhood memoir about growing up on the Navajo Indian
Reservation in the early 1960s... A sequel to this author’s extraordinary debut is hopefully in the works.
Danalee Buhler is a writer, enthusiastic hiker, fanatical traveler, and not a bad juggler.
Her first book, The Very Best Child Care and How To Find It: Birth to Age Three, released in 1989 was a Literary Guild selection. The book drew national attention to the necessity for quality non-parental day care of infants and toddlers.
Following the release of this book Danalee went on to spend several years volunteering her time as an advocate for the improvement of non-parental care of infants and toddlers in this country.
The inspiration for her new release, Running From Coyote: A White Family among the Navajo, came from her own unusual childhood on the Navajo Indian reservation in the four corners area of New Mexico.
Living in Shiprock, New Mexico from 1958 to 1962, the author and her four sisters learn Navajo myths and taboos, wander in and out of the local trading post, and wear moccasins to school everyday. In August of 1959 her family adopts a 14-month old Navajo boy and eight months later, an 11-month old Navajo boy.
